A simple routine for spelling words
- Look and say. Read the word aloud and spell it letter by letter.
- Trace. Trace the model, then the dotted copies, saying each letter as you write it.
- Cover and write. Fold the sheet or cover the row, and write the word on the empty line from memory.
- Check. Uncover and compare. Repeat any word that was tricky.
Tracing builds the motor pattern of each word, and writing it from memory turns that pattern into spelling. Add the empty row after each word to make room for step 3.
